Blankings
Blanking of sea chests / plugging of intakes or overboard discharges to assist at inboard repairs is a very cost effective method of changing defective valves and repairing sea chests plating.
DIVING STATUS has extensive experience in blankings during normal ship operations.
When replacing a valve the following information is needed:
- Sort of valve; butterfly, globe, gate, ball etc.
- Face to face dimensions.
- Flange diameter, bolt circle, quantity of bolts.
- Material and trim material.
- Rating and connection, JIS, DIN or ANSI standards.
The normal procedure usually is:
- Meeting on site with Sup. Engineer, Chief engineer and technicians
- Deciding the sequence of the valves to be replaced
- Blanking the appropriate sea chest gratings, overboards, drain holes etc.
- Confirming that there is no leakage
- Replacing the valves
- Unblanking the blankets/ plates
- Confirming that the valves are fully operational
- Repeating the same procedure for replacing other valve
